Tiny Tunes

About Catriona Lang

Catriona moved to Birmingham from Stirling, Scotland in 1999, when she was offered a scholarship to study singing at Birmingham Conservatoire. After gaining a BMus(Hons), she continued her studies there for a further two years, resulting in her also gaining a Post-Graduate Diploma in vocal performance.

In 2001, whilst studying at the Conservatoire, Catriona was offered the post of Singing Teacher at Spotlight Stage School, Castle Bromwich, teaching both class and individual lessons to children aged 3-18years. She happily took on this job, and for the past 8 years has greatly enjoyed being involved in the growth and development of the stage school, which now provides tuition to over 250 pupils. She is extremely proud of the high standards and numerous accolades achieved, as well as the obvious enjoyment of the pupils.

Before moving to Birmingham Catriona worked in an Out of School Care project for primary aged children, assisted in music sessions at the Charles Brown Unit for children with special needs, and worked five mornings a week at a local privately run playgroup, which she found extremely fulfilling.

For the past 5 years, Catriona has been employed as Coventry University’s singing teacher, as well as teaching privately, and still doing the occasional vocal recital performance.

As part of her course at Birmingham Conservatoire, Catriona was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to study the Kodály Method under the tuition of David Vinden, one of the UK’s leading Kodály experts. As well as learning many skills through this method herself, she was also taught how this wonderful method could be used to introduce music and many developmental skills to children from birth, and how the method can grow with the child as they progress.

This experience, together with her love of working with children made her realise that her dream job would be something that would enable her to enrich children’s lives through music. It also made her realise that a shared love of music and singing could help the relationship between parent and child blossom and grow through the experience of learning and playing together in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

And so Tiny Tunes was born!
