Fun music classes for children aged 0-5 years in Harborne, Birmingham
Primarily Tiny Tunes is fun and stimulating, whilst providing a positive life and learning experience, helping your child to develop in a happy friendly environment.
Tiny Tunes is based in Birmingham and provides fun music sessions for children aged 0-5 years. The classes are run by experienced professional singer and singing teacher, Catriona Lang (BMus Hons, PGDip)
A typical Tiny Tunes session involves the child and carer in action songs, singing games and rhymes to provide a varied musical experience. Incorporated into these activities are basic percussion instruments, puppets and movement (as well as a few other surprises!) to keep the experience stimulating and fun.
As well as being great fun, singing games and rhymes in early childhood help with development in the following key areas :
- Intellectual development – Singing games and rhymes develop speech, understanding, memory and concentration, as well as introducing numbers, colours, rhyming, and many other everyday concepts.
- Musical development - Musically, the child becomes aware of concepts such as pulse, rhythm, dynamics (louder/quieter), tempo (faster/slower) and pitch (higher/lower) in accordance with Kodály principles. They experience different types of music, experiment with a variety of instruments and find their "singing voice".
- Emotional development – As the child progresses from baby to toddler to pre-schooler, the experiences they gain at Tiny Tunes will help them to develop confidence and independence and will enhance the bond with the parent/carer as they learn and play together. Singing is also a great emotional release for adults and children alike.
- Social development – A Tiny Tunes session provides the opportunity for the child to interact with their carer, and with the other children in the group. The idea of group co-operation is introduced by sharing instruments, taking turns, being leader etc. Children soon learn that sharing is a positive experience, and everyone will get a turn.
- Physical development - Tiny Tunes activities develop co-ordination through finger action songs, clapping, stamping, jumping, hopping, moving to music, playing instruments etc.
- Creativity – As the children progress, they are encouraged to contribute more to the sessions by using their imagination, choosing favourite songs, or suggesting different movements to action songs etc. This again develops individual creativity and a sense of pride and self worth when their suggestion is enjoyed by the whole group.
